“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.” ―Aristotle
The world is thriving now with self-love and living authentically anecdotes but how easy is it to be your true self?
How can you really know who you are and what you ought to do in life?
Everyone says there’s no better person for you to be than being yourself and that’s true but that’s not an easy realization to come to, is it?
Nor an easy life to live….
Have you been thinking lately about who you really are before all the voices and culture and socialization started to tell you who to be?
Or have you been thinking about what it would mean to discover that person and begin truly living?
Well, this article is for you. This piece will take you through what authenticity is and what it would mean to you, help you get back your inspiration to live truly and fully authentically.
What is Authenticity?
Authenticity is all about realness, genuineness, originality. It is about finding who you are, what your personality is, stripping away all the baggage and pretention and becoming more conscious and self-aware of your character, your traits, and personality. At the heart of authenticity is stripping away all the external forces – the pressure, influences and other voices and looking inwards.
Living authentically is about knowing who you truly are at a core or soul level, and connecting to that in your life as a way of life. It’s not just knowing what you like and don’t like or what ambitions you have and what moves you. It’s about reconnecting to that place inside you where your fullest and most genuine Self can be expressed.
This Self is the Self you came into this world with and forms the part of you that is Eternal and Knowing. It is the place where your deepest desires and passions come from, as well as where connection, love and sacred purpose reside.
Living authentically means you live a life that is committed to self-knowledge and to allowing your unique voice to shine out through your life purpose. It’s an ongoing process because we are all ever-changing and evolving beings and our purpose and soul-expression develop as we do.
Therefore, living an authentic and inspired life isn’t something you do after you have come to one big realization about who you are. Rather, it’s a way of being that expresses itself through constant realizations and discoveries as you journey through your life.
It’s not a journey that has a destination, because it is a way of life, for the rest of your life.
What does Authenticity mean to you?
It’s one thing to explain what authenticity is but it’s another to live it, understand it and apply it. This begins with the question of what does authenticity mean to you?
What would you define as being your original, real, genuine? Take this as an exercise. If you were to imagine what authenticity looked like, what picture do you see? Revealing and understanding the personal message and meaning for yourself will make this lifestyle change come easier to you, more naturally, less of an effort or something you have to force.
Living authentically empowers us to live our lives in our own terms. It will help us decide which path we’d like to take based on what our core being is saying. It will allow us to choose our journey and our own fight. It is when our decisions in life are not influenced by someone or by the standards of society.
It is important to live an authentic life as it will place us into the zone of inspiration where everything flows out harmoniously from within and everything we do in life is driven by passion and inspiration. This is a good place to be.
