The weekend might be a time for resting—but it's not a time for giving up. You'll find that, even on the weekend, you can work on your goals in a way that is productive but which is not stressful. So, keeping this in mind, here are 10 habits that very successful people engage in during their weekends.

1- Planning out how next week will go.

What kinds of things do you have to do? What tasks, activities and meetings are coming up? Write these into your schedule for the week, so that you can stay on the ball.

2- Read a good book.

Books are a great way of forgetting about everything else and just getting lost in your own little world. Whether you're reading an essay, a novel or a biography, you'll be learning something new and enjoying yourself at the same time. Win-win!

3- Using that time to catch up with friends and family.

Even if you can't make time during the weekdays for your loved ones, you need to see them. This is because life is short; you've only got so much time. You don't want to squander it by doing meaningless tasks when you could be spending time with those you love.

4- Learning a new skill.

There are different skills you can learn over the course of a few weekends. For instance, you can teach yourself how to make pixel creations with Perler beads and a clothes iron. You can also take up crocheting or cross-stitch. The world’s your oyster when it comes to new hobbies; there are no limits.

5- Meditate when you have a moment of free time.

Meditating is incredibly important; it will allow you to focus on your mental state while at the same time becoming aware of the universe. You'd be surprised at the change you can bring in yourself merely by sitting down, calming your body, taking some deep breaths, and telling yourself encouraging thoughts.

6- Wake up early.

Waking up early will ensure that you have more time to do as you please during the day—and also that you have more time to sleep at night. What's not to like?

7- Exercising.

Working out is not only healthy, it's also fun. Whether you do exercise, go swimming, or take your bike out for a ride, you'll be working your body in the most fun way possible.

8- Engaging in “smart fun.”

You can do fun things which will also work your brain. Reading newspaper and magazine articles on subjects that interest you is one example; another example is to play some intelligent video games, which will encourage you to think strategically. In my case, I enjoy playing an online quiz where you have to name as many countries as possible in a time limit.

9- Taking time to reflect on how the week went.

What things went well? What things could be improved? Were there any strategies that didn't quite work this week? Take note of them, and reflect on them. What will you change for next week?

10- Learn a new language.

Learning a new language is beneficial because it allows you to communicate with people from all over the world—as well as work out your brain. Interesting languages include Portuguese, Italian and French.

With these helpful weekend activities, you can start becoming a better, more engaged person today, so don't wait. Try them the next time Friday rolls around—you won't regret it!
